Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation – sponsors an essay contest for the 11th grade in each of the high schools in our service area. To be eligible, students must be dependents of members of the cooperative. Essays are judged in November of each year and a winner is chosen to represent the cooperative on an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC in June of the following year. The annual tour is an event that gives students the opportunity to see government in action. The group that goes to Washington, DC is made up of 150 students and cooperative employees from all across the state. A scholarship of $1000 is also awarded to each winner upon graduating.
